Built in 1878 by Dr Frederick Harrison Quaife, surgeon, who bought the first x-ray machine to the colony. His initials appear above the front door. The building has had a chequered history becoming a Masonic Hall, nurses home, dance hall, the Riviere College for young ladies & lodgings until falling into disrepair. First adapted to a boutique hotel in 1992 following an extensive restoration . a further refurbishment was undertaken in 2017.
