Building History Description

John Morrice came to Australia in 1834 with John Dunmore Lang and received Eling Forest property of about 1,000 acres as payment for his expenditure in buying stores for the ship on which he travelled. The property was named after Eling in Hampshire where Walter Morrice, uncle of the original owner lived. Original estate included the 1840 homestead of  brick and stone with later weatherboard additions, stone cottage used as a school room and stable, plus a sandstone quarry.
